Someone got tired of cleaning his own windows
HOBOT builds robots that clean glass while you do something else. The first one existed because its inventor could not face washing his own windows again.
Invented out of irritation
George Chao founded HOBOT in June 2010 for an entirely relatable reason: he was fed up with cleaning the large glass windows in his house. So he designed and built the win-68 window cleaning robot from scratch — a machine that grips the glass, works out the edges for itself, and cleans while you are elsewhere.
The design won an iENA gold medal at the Nuremberg invention fair, and in 2014 HOBOT brought the world’s first window-cleaning robot to market. The company now sells in more than thirty countries.
Glass is the hard problem
A robot that cleans a floor can afford to be wrong. A robot on a third-storey window cannot. HOBOT machines hold themselves to the glass, map the pane, and clean it methodically edge to edge — on windows, glass doors, shower screens, mirrors and tiled walls, inside and out.
Where it earns its keep
Conservatories, stairwell windows, patio doors and anything above head height — the panes that are genuinely unpleasant or unsafe to reach, and that therefore tend not to get cleaned.
