The Solenco Caravan & Home Air Conditioner is a unique portable split system that pairs a quiet indoor fan unit with a weather-resistant outdoor compressor. Delivering up to 5200 BTU of cooling power with WiFi app control, it's made for caravans, motorhomes and off-grid living, and also cools a small room.

Check These Before You Order

• Window: In Caravan Mode it mounts in a caravan window that opens outward. The outdoor unit sits outside on the supplied brackets, the indoor unit hooks on inside, and the window closes to its vent position. The window opening must be at least 41.2 x 39.3 cm, and the window frame and caravan wall together no thicker than about 7 cm (the depth of the brackets).
• Works well in: Solid-walled caravans with a standard outward-opening window, such as the Sprite, Gypsey and Jurgens ranges and Stealth caravans. The caravan in our photos is a Stealth, fitted at Eastern Cape Caravans
• Not suitable for: Canvas-sided caravans and bush vans. In a tent, it suits night-time use only, below about 30°C
• Indoor unit: 409 x 191 x 378 mm, lifted in through the open window
• Outdoor unit: 508 x 205 x 389 mm
• Total weight: 23 kg
• Power: Plugs into a normal earthed 220–240V plug point and draws only 2.5–2.7A (565–585W). In our own test it started and ran without trouble on a 700W (1,400W peak) pure sine wave portable power station, drawing about 475W
• Start-up surge: When the compressor starts, it draws a short surge that lasts about a tenth of a second (the factory measured a 14A peak). Choose a pure sine wave inverter or power station that can handle a start-up peak. The 1,400W peak unit in our test coped without trouble
• Noise: About 48 dB on sleep, 51 dB on low and 55 dB on high, measured 1 m from the unit in the factory's sound-proofed test room
• Cooling: 4500–5200 BTU for spaces of about 10–15m², in outside temperatures of 16–42°C
• In a small room: It also cools a small room of about 10–15m². Both units sit together indoors, the supplied exhaust hose goes out of a window, and condensation drains into a bucket. It is sized for a caravan or small room, not to replace a home air conditioner
